February 18, I was privileged to attend the Beloit International
Film Festival (BIFF) in Beloit, Wisconsin. It was my
first time attending, and I was eager to experience
a night of the festival through the lens of Medallion
Movies. So, in a private act of hubris against the raging
cold, I drove to Beloit, iTunes blaring.
Crossing the
border from Illinois to Wisconsin, I was greeted by
a sign: “Welcome to Beloit, the gateway to Wisconsin!” I
was relieved to know it wasn’t the gateway to
hell, upon which some folks have been known to stumble,
sometimes by accident and sometimes on purpose.
My purpose
here was to catch the debut of Slime City Massacre by
Medallion Press author and Medallion Movies filmmaker
Gregory Lamberson. It was our first foray into movies and
Greg’s long-awaited sequel to his first indie
cult hit, Slime City.
Greg had made
such an impression that the coordinators honored him
as host of this year’s event. At the Launch & Laurels,
Greg greeted the filmmakers before the awards ceremony
began.
