Erin
Samiloglu was
born on a steamy Mississippi summer morning at the end of
August, 1978. After enduring a suburban, middle-class
upbringing, she moved to Melbourne, Australia to attend school
at the prestigious Deakin University, where she studied writing
and media arts and worked as a waitress part-time in a hoity
toity restaurant where no one ever tipped and the air conditioner
was always broken.
In the hip, arty
and high culture cesspool of Melbourne, Samiloglu finessed
her creative gifts, particularly playwriting
and screenwriting. It was not until she returned to Mississippi
four years later, however, where she began to write novels.
Her first novel, Disconnection, was published by
Medallion in the summer of 2005. Her second novel is titled Gossamer
Hall.
Samiloglu now resides
in Austin, Texas. She enjoys reading, running, laughing
at her husband’s jokes and answering
fan mail. She is enthusiastic about all her work, but she
considers her children, London and Kaya, her proudest creations.
